"Shoot like a pro for less dough."

If only it were that simple.

There's so much wrong with this that I have a hard time being coherent.

- The hood is backwards. Surely, someone involved in taking this photo should have known something about cameras…?

- The strap is attached incorrectly and looks terrible.

- They make the effort to remove all of the text and branding from the camera and then leave the Nikon-yellow strap untouched; this is almost certainly a Nikon D80 or D90.

- This debranded Nikon is then used to sell a Canon camera.

- The connect the word "pro" to an entry-level camera and kit lens, which is a wildly popular misconception among people who have no idea what they're talking about. For the record, Canon does not consider the T4i to be a 'pro' camera, and according to them, neither is the 5DmkIII. Try the 1Dx instead.

- They perpetuate the idea that skill is bought instead of earned, and that there's really no skill or talent involved in photography in the first place.

- This particular big-box electronics and appliance store, in addition to knowing nothing about cameras, isn't even particularly cheap – they need to charge more to pay for all of their "we're the lowest price" ads.

Complete and utter rubbish, from beginning to end.

Well, at the risk of earning your eternal scorn, I have shot with the lens hood reversed on the ZD 12-60mm in low-light sitations, but only because I'm a bit lazy that way and the zoom ring is near the mount and well away from being covered by the reversed hood.

This debranded Nikon is then used to sell a Canon camera.

Scandalous, isn't it? It could have been worse. They could have used a neutered Canon to sell Nikon.

...there's really no skill or talent involved in photography in the first place.

With a large number of practitioners that is the case.

Complete and utter rubbish, from beginning to end.

So how do you really feel about the ad? :)

I was originally going to use this photo as the basis for a review… can you tell?

Well, at the risk of earning your eternal scorn…

Never. And for what it's worth, I'm quite lazy about hoods too: I never bother to reverse them for storage. The only occasional exception is the 105/2,8 macro – the hood is half the size of the lens – but I rarely carry it out of the house because it's just too much work.
